I plan on a great range traverse in the next year or two and appreciate seeing some different options I hadn't thought of. We definitely cheat and have chocolate though for the morale and sugar high. Including the 3 options we had for the range. We picked the worst day, the last day we had.

Ultimately we got poured on for 9 hours. Ended up doing Marcy, haystack and started up Basin in a break in the down pours. Decided against it with the thunder. Still, 21+ miles and 5000 gain, not bad for a failure.

Really appreciated my sis joining me, we had a fun time.

Did the remaining 3/4 a few weeks later. Another 20+ mile day with over 6000 gain.Justin Serpicohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11144062088881874004noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7086083773473434138.post-36038342659789923632012-08-26T17:59:27.108-04:002012-08-26T17:59:27.108-04:00How did the Great Range go??????How did the Great Range go??????Petehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17759059813818382920noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7086083773473434138.post-60552381081128861452012-05-24T18:55:46.683-04:002012-05-24T18:55:46.683-04:00haha...just attribute it back to me. I frequently consume 2500-3000+ cal and am dropping weight (at a slow and safe rate) in a way that doesn't impact performance. recent studies show that you shouldn't lose more than 0.7% of your mass per week if you want to maintain/improve fitness at the same time. plus, it's nice not being hungry ;-)Justin Serpicohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11144062088881874004noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7086083773473434138.post-21661846283942698112012-05-24T18:45:46.624-04:002012-05-24T18:45:46.624-04:00I will be doing it June 3rd unless the weather is ...I will be doing it June 3rd unless the weather is better June 2nd. Although my sister points out groups who complete it in 12the hours, I am realistic. Sure, I can do half of the range in less than 8 hours including leisurely breaks, but the toll of the entire range is cumulative, and at some point all but the most fit slow down to a crawl.

I expect, without a shuttle doing all the peaks, 20 hours plus. if we skip Hedgehog and Roosercomb, but go up and down LWJ, maybe 16-18 hours.

My sister is training for the FDNY CPAT (firefighter physical fitness test) so she is in shape, but neither of us have hiked a ton this year to date. actually memorial day should be my biggest weekend since last October and only second weekend with 20+ miles in that span.Justin Serpicohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11144062088881874004noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7086083773473434138.post-64064665675051036042012-05-24T11:32:54.696-04:002012-05-24T11:32:54.696-04:00when and how are you doing the range? prob doing t...when and how are you doing the range? prob doing the lower range (bennies brook through ?) june 9 or 10.

good food for thought too (harhar) as im working on extending my daily range/endurance over that terrain.FoulHookedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14415631616239290169noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7086083773473434138.post-68027151812706820282012-05-24T07:41:13.281-04:002012-05-24T07:41:13.281-04:00Interesting information I'll need to consider ...Interesting information I'll need to consider further.
